During the study the profile of general veterinary medicine study branch graduate is aimed mostly at specific activities in the field of state administration, as a private veterinary doctor, in the field of laboratory practice, private sphere of agriculture, food industry, pharmacy, in education, scientific and research sphere and in environmental protection.
Curriculum is made up in intentions of EU requirements – 78/1026/EEC and 78/1027/EEC.
Within the theoretical and pre-clinical disciplines in the first years of study, the student becomes acquainted with biological rules in nature in relation to veterinary medicine and with the problems involving living matter in relation to ecosystem and mutual interaction. The study also deals with biochemical processes, physiology of organs and micro-organism and macro-organism systems in relation to various animal species.
Students apply the basic knowledge within the subjects focused on health and hygiene problems of animal breeding. For medical purposes they use particularly the knowledge acquired in the field of anatomy, histology, nutrition and dietetics, physiology, pathological physiology, pharmacology, toxicology, laboratory and clinical diagnostics. The following should facilitate the application of obtained knowledge to practice: theoretical and practical studies of specific subjects in veterinary and therapeutic fields and particularly in preventive sphere with focus on environmental protection, ecology and production of hygienically acceptable food and raw materials of animal origin. Students become acquainted with waste-free technologies, possibilities of harmless disposal of wastes or their further utilisation. They should be able to use the respective knowledge about residual substances and their influence on the quality of raw materials and food of animal origin within the food chain in order to protect the animal health and environment and prevent the direct impact on human health.
The study priority is obtaining theoretical and practical knowledge of specific clinical subjects according to animal species and from the point of view of internal, infectious, invasive diseases and toxic and metabolic disorders and impairment of organism by radiation and other unfavourable effects of the environment.
The graduate should have thorough knowledge about diseases common to both man and animals. This way they can contribute to protection of human health and lower incidence of zoonoses in human population.
The study course includes also food hygiene subjects. It enables the graduate to perform the state inspection in food production hygiene and control the state border protection from veterinary and hygiene aspects.
The curriculum should enable the graduate to work in the agriculture sector and to obtain additional specific knowledge within post-graduate study.
The registration for the academic year is conditional upon the proof of payment of the university fees (which annually approved by the Academic Senate of UVMP in Košice and announced in the Internal Regulation No. 38).
Payment can be made by bank transfer or by cash at the university cash desk. Proof of payment should take the form of a payment certificate.
Tuition fee can be paid in maximum of two equal instalments – the first one has to be paid prior to the registration day stipulated for the given academic year, the second one has to be paid prior to the end of the education period of the first semester of the given academic year.
